Participatory Action Research as a Way of Life: A Personal Account

This is a personal account of events that occurred during 1989 related to the concept of participatory action research. Drawing upon my own experiences and education in the Canadian context, I introduce participatory action research as a way of life that is attracting more and more people in international adult education. I then examine two main issues in the debate surrounding the concept: the nature of knowledge and participation. This concept represents our current beacon for adult educator commitment to the elimination of oppression from the world.
RésuméCet article se présente comme un récit personnel des événements qui portèrent sur le concept de la recherche participative en 1989. Faisant appel à mes propres expériences et à mon éducation en contexte canadien, je présenterai la recherche participative comme une façon de vivre adoptée, internationalement, par un nombre croissant d'éducateurs des adultes. J'examinerai ensuite deux questions-clés portant sur le débat en cours: la nature des connaisssances et celle de la participation. Ceci constitue un nouveau paramétre susceptible d'éclairer l'éducateur d'adultes dans la voie de son engagement pour un monde sans oppression.
