About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Canadian Journal for the Study of Adult Education is committed to the dissemination of knowledge derived from disciplined inquiry in the field of adult education, continuing education, and lifelong learning. It is a refereed journal that publishes in both of Canada's two official languages.

The CJSAE publishes original reports of research that utilize all recognized social research methodologies including empirical, interpretive, ethnographic, historical, comparative, hermeneutic, and philisophical studies. It publishes critical reviews of the literature of adult education and essays that focus on analytic examinations and critiques of issues in adult education, continuing education, and lifelong learning. It also publishes biographical and autobiographical reflections on the field and practice of adult education.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to the CJSAE are subject to peer review by two reviewers qualified to assess the academic merits of the submission.

Reviewers are invited to assess the degree to which the submission contributes to knowledge or theory pertinent to adult education; the methodological soundness of the submission; the pertinence and clarity of the inferences and conclusions of the submission; and, finally, the extent to which the submission is well organized, clearly written, and readable.

Typically, peer reviews are conducted over a period of four to six weeks. Peer reviewers are asked to review this document before beginning the review.

Most often, manuscripts are reviewed by CJSAE Consulting Editors.

Publication Frequency

The CJSAE is published twice annually in May and November. For two issues, November 2011 and May 2012, the journal will be published in both in print and online.  Since November 2012, the journal has been published online only.
